Theatre

Sisad or 300, is an epic show inspired by Ray Bradbury’s dystopian novel, “Fahrenheit 451” depicting the mongol invasion of Persia.

Our story is set in Neshabour, a cultural hub of the time, as the Mongolian army relentlessly searches for the one book that can destroy the Persian heritage and do the most damage. This book is what we know as the book of kings, or شاهنامه.

The Mongolians try to use the help of Neshaburian locals and find a man by the name of Ghariv whose job is to burn books. He who is our protagonist, agrees to help in exchange for riches and as he searches the city he encounters a woman by the name of Iran who with the help of her scholarly father is hiding all the books and unexpectedly falls in love with her.

Through this encounter, he starts to understand the value of books and especially the book of kings. However there are other machinations at play and as our story unravels, in a shocking final act we witness our hero betray Iran and deliver all the books to the Mongolians for a burning feast as she watches in horror and disgust. The Mongols feast and gloat as they celebrate their victory.

A musical performance based on the poems of the Shahnameh within a multimedia framework

Strengthening national identity through focus on Iranian artistic and cultural thought

The Si Project, a collaboration between Homayoun Shajarian and Sohrab Pournazeri and managed by Tahmoures Pournazeri, successfully completed a series of 30 open-air performances in the Saadabad Palace Complex in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

Written by Naghmeh Samini and directed by Ali Asghar Dashti with Hamid Nematollah acting as a project consultant, this performance included a number of renowned actors such as Bahram Radan, Sahar Dolatshahi, and Mehdi Pakdel.

Music for this project was performed by some of Iran's most reputable musicians including Sohrab Pournazeri (Tanbour, Setar, Kamancheh), Hossein Rezaeinia (Daf), Azad Mirzapour (Tar), Mahyar Toreihi (Santour), and Arin Keshishi (Bass Guitar), among others. Members of the Shahrzad Quartet were also present as musicians during these performances.

With the aim of restoring the Iranian national identity, the Si Project recounted three stories from the Shahnameh, using a combination of musical and theatrical performances, in addition to video-mapping on the walls of the Saadabad Palace's magnificent buildings.

Produced by Delavaz and Barana Art Institute, this project was performed in front of 4000 spectators every night, with a total audience of 120000 during its 30-night run.
